color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>WHO CAN BE INVOLVED<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anyone with a passion for the topic of bullying<\/li>\n<li>Schools (Elementary, Secondary, Public, Private):<\/li>\n<li>clubs, classes, departments, staff, students, coaches, councilors, etc<\/li>\n<li>Community groups, organizations, programs, etc<\/li>\n<li>Sport team<\/li>\n<li>Individuals within the community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>HOW TO BE A PART OF A NIGHT OF HARMONY:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Submit a nomination for the Excellence in Effort Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Award recognizes the effort of an individual; an individual who has kept trying even though they know if they continue, it will be difficult:\u00a0 recognition of perseverance towards their goal, NOT the attainment of a goal\u00a0 (various prizes to win including an IPAD).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">SEND NOMINATIONS to <a href=\"mailto:karepower@gmail.com\">karepower@gmail.com<\/a> and include a 200 word maximum description of why you are nominating the individual (s):\u00a0 all nominations will be immediately forwarded to Western Society for Children for review<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0<strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Prepare a submission for the evening <\/strong>(See the below for the Idea Generator)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Put something together that can be performed in the\u00a0theatre component of the evening.\u00a0 For example:\u00a0 a play, sing, dance, skit, slam poetry, etc:\u00a0 these can be pieces that you have already performed in the past<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (EG, the Student Liaisons will be performing the song \u2018Lean on Me\u2019 as a group).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare a piece for the Art Gallery: write a poem(s) or story,\u00a0do a painting(s), drawing(s) or sculpture(s), take a photo(s):\u00a0 these can be pieces you have already been completed.<\/li>\n<li>Schools, it&#8217;s easy to be involved;\u00a0create an assignment that can be collected and used\u00a0for a submission and\/or use something that has already been completed and\/or performed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">For example, one elementary school made mittens as decorations for the Christmas \u00a0 \u00a0 trees.\u00a0 They are now going to use the mittens that are cut out in various colors to visually represent diversity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0<strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Spread the word<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tell your friends, family, co-workers, school mates;<\/li>\n<li>Post the event on\u00a0your Facebook page, etc<\/li>\n<li>Add website link to your own website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0<strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Wear the K.A.R.E. Color<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Wear yellow on the evening of \u201cA Night in Harmony\u201d\u00a0(or any other) to show you K.A.R.E.; that you are a\u00a0supporter of friendship and courage.\u00a0 Show others\u00a0that if you have the courage to stand up and speak\u00a0out against bullying, brighter days WILL come.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0<strong>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Be a volunteer<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a Student Liaison (contact us and ask us how)<\/li>\n<li>Attend one of the monthly meetings held at Kensington Community Centre<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0i. \u00a0Inquire how you can help<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 ii. \u00a0Get updates and share ideas, etc\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Help to with the \u201cA Night in Harmony\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0i. \u00a0Organize paperwork (EG. Worse was the cruelty and bullying that my brother and family suffered afterwards at the hands of others, even from people we knew and from programs that should have been there to help us.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>We&#8217;re a family of advocates that started with my mom (women of distinction icon?). Bullying can happen in many different ways, not just between people. It can happen between human and animal, organization and families, etc\u2026 For example, systems bullied and belittled my mom after my brother was injured, forcing her to fight for human rights and suffering the indignity of begging for medical help.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0(Did you know it\u2019s 8x more costly to raise a child with a disability and 80% of those costs are not covered through any government funding?)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0In the end she\u2019s been successful in founding programs and helping to change some policies, making life and little better and easier for many families in the similar circumstances.
